After a morning demonstration at Calumet there will be several stations set up at Out Of Frame Studios for all you photographers to get hands on playtime with. The above picture is a result of one of these stations that will be featured.

Hands On Bron Anyone?

You gotta touch, feel and play with something before you know if you like it. That's what Damion from Bron Imaging Group was doing in our studio the other day.

He held a workshop where photographers could come in and not only check out, but play with some of the products he rep's. Bron states that they provide the United States with Europe's finest photographic gear. Studio power packs, Sunbounce, photographic lighting equipment and much more. Now who wouldn't want to see what this is all about?

When Down is Up

As a child I grew up around many relatives and family friends who frequently visited my grandparents home. One set of their close friends were Auggie and Marie. When they visited they always had their son Christopher with them.

Christopher was a bit different from the other cousins and friends. No one treated him any different; he just wasn't shy and he seemed to always be having a good time. He was bigger than the rest of us but I felt like I needed to keep an eye on him because I didn't want anyone to say something mean about him. That is what was going through my 6 year old mind.

Christopher has developmental disabilities. I always felt good after seeing him and still do. To explain the way and why I felt good was hard to make sense of. Until now.

Photographer Jagatjoti Singh Khalsa shows up to do a photo shoot at our studio. I heard it was going to be for a book he was publishing and it had to do with individuals who have Down Syndrome. The name of the book will be titled "I'm Down With You". Catchy title, I was really intrigued. I made it a point to talk with him after his shoot to find out more.

His peaceful presence coupled with his enthusiasm about his work made me feel like I needed to somehow show others what he is doing. Not just for awareness on Down Syndrome, which is in the forefront, but for the spiritual identity all people need to locate inside themselves. He has found within these individuals real beauty and the way to share it with the world.

I am very pleased to note he said the studio space had a positive feel and really enjoyed shooting here. We all at Out Of Frame wish him the best on this project and hope to see him on the next. Stage 1 “North” is now open.

It is a bright, white, natural light photo studio in Los Angeles. We are conveniently located in the heart of the Hollywood Media District.

There is 1200 sq. ft. space with north and west exposure, a large skylight and 280 amps of power. For late afternoon, “Magic Hour” shoots the light is truly magical.

There is an attached green room with makeup stations, a kitchen ,reception area and an iMac computer with WiFi for laptops are included.

All stage customers receive 50% off grip and production equipment rentals. There is also an expendable Shop on premises.

For your photo equipment needs we can place an order for you at Calumet Photographic and have your equipment waiting for you in the stage when you arrive.

The space is available for shoots, casting and events. We are open 7 days a week, day and night.

Rock Out with your Prog Out

Progressive rock band Final Gravity flashed stage North with their forceful front of sound last weekend for Out Of Frame's first video shoot. Just like beer and hot dogs or champagne and strawberries; OOF staff members being musicians it just seems natural to have bands shooting video's here.

When the director Charles Mumford was asked about his shooting experience with us he passed on the following: It's a dream come true for the band to work on such a professional stage. It was great having an arsenal of equipment at our disposal should the need arise. When the creative juices are flowing, it's great to know that the gear is ready at hand to make those visions a reality. Whenever we found a need for something, the guys at Out of Frame had it in our hands almost as fast as we thought of it.

Kudo's to Katie!

Last weekend we had the pleasure of hosting Katie Johnson for a natural light shoot in Stage 1. Meeting her for the first time I quickly knew she was one of those people that you just want to get to know better. It's her job to bring out the personalities of the people she shoots. I knew she had to be talented at doing so just because of the warmth of our first hello. Needless to say we met up later in the week for Mexican Food and great conversation. We all can not wait to see Katie's continual rise in this profession that she loves!

With two models in tow, Katie arrived with one cart of equipment and was up and shooting faster than anyone we have had here before. She told us how much fun she had shooting and recommended photographers to definitely try a stage shoot if they have not already done so. After a very short period of time she was wrapped and out the door.

When we saw the final product we were blown away that someone could pull these images off so quickly, a mark of a true PRO. Katie’s company FOTOWORKS PRO is located in Orange County they have been serving professional photographers for the past 14 years. They are a premier professional imaging service business. With these great images created on her first studio shoot you can just imagine the things to come. Also, considering Katie Johnson’s creativity, energy and professionalism I think it would be a safe bet to use her company or to hire her to shoot for any situation.

Producer's Guild BBQ

Out of Frame Production Rentals has been happy to support the Producer’s Guild of America. The guild is an integral part of our business so it has been great to have a chance to donate equipment to their events.

Most recently was the PGA Family Barbecue. They were kind enough to hang our banner and invite us to share in the festivities.

Carol Beams and Salvy Maleki put together an amazing event and went out of their way to make us feel welcome and help us to put faces to people that we have talked on the phone with for quite some time.

Marie and Chris had a great afternoon with some great people. Dining tips from Rachel and Amit (the place to go for pizza is MOZZA). There was also a masseuse from YADA YADA YOGA, a lifestyle agency. They regularly set up private yoga instruction, massages and other spa style treatment on Film and Television sets.

With all of us in this industry racing at a million mile an hour pace this was a great chance to catch a breath with our colleagues.

We recently had the pleasure of having Alexx shoot an Oral B ad in Stage 1 – “North”.

With a set build and his pro staff led by his assistant Andrew Ganti and a very famous little dog, our space was transformed to create the background of a very creative ad.

Alexx Henry is high on the list of my favorite shooters. He is a magician with lighting and post production. He creates these beautiful fantasies in the form of photos. There is an electrical energy dancing throughout his images. He has also found a way to capture some very famous faces in a way that we have never seen them before… Opening up a very unique side of his subjects.
